CATS ON TUESDAY

maine coon

When I was 11 my cat died unexpectedly and I desperately wanted a new one. Because the vet suspected FLV we were told not to get a kitten for 6 months, we could however get an adult cat. So we trekked out to the local humane society, sweetly named, Lollypop Farm, to check out the adult cats.

Most of the cats were either sleeping or showing off, but there was one tiny little cat just sitting and watching. When we stopped in front of the door to the cat room, she quickly hopped down from her perch and made her way to the door. She proceeded to rollover and then just sat and waited. Obviously she was the cat for me.

Her paper work said her name was Tica, she was 4 years old, and fully declawed. Our vet thought she was extremely underweight, she weighed just over 3lbs. and wanted us to do whatever it took to fatten her up. We would later determine that she was at least part maine coon and understand more clearly the reason for his concern, who ever heard of a 3lb. maine coon cat. But no matter what we offered or how much she ate she never weighed more than 4lbs. her entire life.

We would, however, quickly discover during treat times that Tica could not only rollover on request, but beg on request as well. She was also, the most exceptionally well mannered cat I have ever known. Every morning she would sit in a chair next to me at the table while I ate my breakfast, but never ever did her feet touch the table. She would just sit and wait until I offered her the bowl and then delicately drink from it without ever leaving the chair.

She was a great friend and pet for years and sometimes I still miss her…

I have the same feelings for my boy. He died 4yrs ago, but sometimes I look at a picture and well up. I use his pictures all the time for Camera Critters. Anyone who hasn’t seen my CC’s from the beginning would swear he’s still around.

BTW, I love the work you’ve done with the photos. Just last night I was playing with my last CC’s post with the different programs. I’m thinking about putting one of the pictures back up tomorrow for Wordless Wednesday.

That is a lovely story! It is great that you never forget your cat. I always remember with a smile to my 3 cats which are gone to the bridge.
The first cat died 20 years ago. The second died before 4 years. Now we still miss our Frieda who is gone before 6 month.

She must have been a very exceptional cat ! It’s normal that you miss her. My very first cat was very special too. She followed me everywhere, shopping, to friends, on holidays just free or on a leash. She died after 20 years of commun life and I tell you although she is dead for more than 20 years I could never forget her !
