Cats On Tuesday #5
CATS ON TUESDAY
Mr. Dubbie

I wish our scanner worked, because I would love to show you pictures of Mr. Dubbie at his tiniest and at his largest. Alas we will have to settle for three gorgeous photos of him in his final years.
Mr. Dubbie came to us by way of accidental desertion. My friend Kim and I both had doctor’s appointments and my Mother had gone to work early that morning so that she could take us. As we approached a stop sign that afternoon she suddenly screamed and almost drove through the stop. When we were safely pulled over to the side of the road she pulled from under her brake a ferocious, hissing, two pound ball of guard cat that we would all come to know and love. Further investigation revealed a tiny, fluffy girl sibling under the seat, no where near as cute or brave as her brother.
Obviously Mama cat thought the hole in the floor of our 1977 Ford LTD Station Wagon was meant for her, and she had been using the car as a night time shelter for her babies. When mom left early that day she was out, but the babies were in. The poor dears were starving and terrified.

As soon as we could get them home we fed them a meal of baby formula & rice cereal, they thought we were crazy. But after only a few tries of dipping their noses in they were off eating. Mr. Dubbie loved it so much that he layed himself down in the middle of the dish, cereal by immersion.
Mr. Dubbie was our only cat to make the transition from New York to Georgia, and the only one of my childhood pets that my daughter ever knew. Someday I will have to tell you about beatings, his fabulous brother Clark, minning & mouting, the NOW syndrome, and how he got his name; but for now I will leave him in the sunshine…
