American Idol – The Top 10 Perform

American Idol

Okay, this is gonna be a bit of a quicky, I'm tired and they just weren't all that amazing tonight.   One would think with Motown as the category that the possibilities for finding a song that fits each contestant wouldn't be that hard but…

Matt Giraud opens with Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye), and I actually enjoyed him more away from his piano.  He definitely would be easy to listen to long term, he has a real connection with the music and the audience.

Kris Allen is up next with How Sweet It Is (Marvin Gaye),  and after the clip I'm prepared to be blown away and I'm not.  He's not awful, it's just that I don't know that I'll remember it by tomorrow.

Scott MacIntyre performs You Can't Hurry Love (Diana Ross and the Supremes),… In truth it was better than I expected; but that doesn't mean it was good or that I liked it.

Megan Joy Corkrey sings For Once In My Life (Stevie Wonder), and I'm left wishing she hadn't.  I think the clip version showed more promise and potential than the trainwreck we were treated to on stage.   I hope the Worsters lose their fight to keep her in this.

Anoop Desai does Ohh Baby, Baby (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles), and I really enjoyed it.  I think he's interesting and I hope he sticks around long enough that we really get to see all of Anoop and his talents.

Michael Sarver sings Ain't Too Proud To Beg (Tempations),  and beg for votes is what he'll need to do. I strongly feel that Megan has a strong hold on worst of the night but Michael just lacks and real power in his voice.

Lil Rounds is up next with Heatwave (Martha and the Vandellas),  and I just feel like she rushed through the whole thing kind of screaming at us.  She has such a strong voice, there's no need to screech, better song choices must be in her future.

Adam Lambert surprises with Tracks Of My Tears (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles), and while the toned down Adam is just as character as dressed crazy Adam, the vocals are amazing.  He is just note perfect every week and when he delivers like he did tonight he is almost untouchable.  I still can't picture looping his CD but…

Danny Gokey performs Get Ready (Temptations), and I'm kind of left with the feeling that he's holding back, staying out of the limelight, and not delivering quite to his full potential for fear of running out of ways to impress.  Considering the competition, this could seriously be a good move.  Tonight's performance was fun, energetic, crowd pleasing, and easy enough to listen to without causing unneccessary pimping by the judges.

Allison Iraheta closes with Papa Was A Rolling Stone (Temptations), she was good, but somehow it just didn't do anything for me.  I guess I'm left feeling like I've heard better version from the Idol stage in earlier seasons.  I still love her and hope that she is in this for quite some time.

Top 3:  Adam, Matt, Anoop/Danny

Bottom 3:  Scott, Michael, Megan
