American Idol – Top 12 Girls

Time to settle in with a warm blankie or perhaps a nice cashmere throw, a cup of tea, and American Idol. It’s the girls night to fight for the five guaranteed slots available.
Ta-Tynisa Wilson – Only Girl In The World – Rihanna – She was okay, but there were issues and other than the judge standoff there wasn’t anything memorable about the performance. As first out she needed to be beyond spectacular if she wanted anyone to remember her.
Naima Adedapo – Summertime – George Gershwin – A nice upbeat, bluesy version with tons of personality. Randy has to bring up Fantasia which is crazy because their versions were worlds apart.
Kendra Chantelle – Impossible – Christina Aguilera – A pretty song and she did a solid job with the song, not a lot of “performance” but not awkward either. I feel like we know nothing about her other than she can sing.
Rachel Zevita – Criminal – Fiona Apple – It didn’t do anything for me, I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it just left me bored. I loved Steven’s face when she said Broadway was the one thing she’d never sung.
Karen Rodriguez – Hero – Mariah Carey – I love that she can sing in English and Spanish, and she has a gorgeous voice. She’s smart too opening up her fan base.
Lauren Turner – Seven Day Fool – Etta James/Jully Black – That was a fun performance, Jennifer’s right she needs to loosen up on stage and just have fun.
Ashthon Jones – Love Over Me – Monica – I’m not sure what it was about the performance but it didn’t really do anything for me. Her voice is great and she looks comfortable on stage, the performance just didn’t move me.
Julie Zorrilla – Breakaway – Kelly Clarkson – The band is too loud and she works to hard to be heard over them. Add in a few bum notes and some really nasal moments and I can safely say she won’t get my vote.
Haley Reinhart – Fallin’ – Alicia Keys – She’s a lot of fun and she’s really comfy on stage. I get what Jennifer’s saying about not over thinking what she’s doing, but she’s a solid performer.
Thia Megia – Out Here On My Own – Irene Cara – The notes were there and her voice is really pretty. I love the song, it brings back memories from childhood. It’s the girl that bugs me and I can’t quite put my finger on why.
Lauren Alaina – Turn On The Radio – Reba McEntire – She has a solid voice and she looked like she was really having fun on stage. She fit well in country and we know she can do Aerosmith. I can believe we haven’t seen the best of her yet.
Pia Toscano – I’ll Stand By You – Wow, Pia can deliver and she did it standing still. She has a gorgeous voice and she’s got a confidence on stage that some of the contestants really lack.
Now, who would my top 5 be, wow this is tough, I can safely get to 7 and I might cut down to 6 but 5! Let’s see… Karen, Pia, Haley, Naima, and Kendra, that’s 5; but if I could I’d add Lauren T. and maybe even Lauren A. I can hardly wait for the results tomorrow.
I’ve been reading all day that the wildcards weren’t going to be announced tomorrow but right before Pia sang Ryan said, “Tomorrow night we uncover your top ten and the judge’s wildcard picks.” Sounds a lot like we will have a top 12 or 13 tomorrow, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
