Random Peeks Into Our Everyday Lives

What Did You Use?

I had to chuckle to myself as I checked out at Kroger today. The cashier had a dab of blue gel toothpaste on her chin. I remember that when I was in high school some girls swore that toothpaste was the best pimple remedy ever. Of course I also remember that it did nothing for those girls unfortunate enough to have true acne instead of just a few pimples. I’m no expert of course, but I did feel compelled to tell the cashier that she needed to use paste not gel.

Toothpaste wasn’t the only home acne/pimple treatment the girls at my high school used, according to them there were all kinds of acne home remedies that work. Some girls rubbed their faces with lemon slices everyday. One girl swore that calamine lotion did the trick, another that a masque of cinnamon and honey would do the trick. And still another that a mask/scrub of honey, ground nutmeg, lime juice, and crushed aspirin was the key.

For the most part I was lucky and a little tube of regular strength Clearsil took me all the way through high school. I don’t think it hurt that I wasn’t one to wear a bunch of makeup. My friend Debbie on the other hand piled the makeup on by the tons to cover her freckles and on the few occasions I saw her without makeup she also had several pimples and blackheads.

Gosh, I’m glad those days are past me for the most part. Not that the daily check for lines and wrinkles is any less devastating than the search for pimples used to be.
