Random Peeks Into Our Everyday Lives

The Bridge

Book Blurb Friday Week #20It was the only forbidden place on her grandparents’ farm, a simple wooden bridge over a pond in a back corner of 40 acres. Every summer the warning was the same, “Caitlyn feel free to go anywhere on the farm, explore to your heart’s content, just stay away from the bridge it’s old and unsafe.”

But the bridge didn’t look any different to 14 year old Caitlyn than it had the first time she saw it seven years before, no missing planks, no rotting rails, how dangerous could it be? One sunny July day Caitlyn sets out to find the answer to that question and enters a world unlike anything she has ever known.

Join Caitlyn on her journey as she struggles to understand the world of magic and mystery that she has crossed into and fights to find a way back home.

Book Blurb FridayMy blurb this week has 145 words.

Book Blurb Friday is hosted by Lisa Ricard Claro, who posts a weekly photo and challenges us to “write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book.” That’s quite a challenge, but it’s a lot of fun as well. I love what you did with the photo (so clever and so beyond me).I agree, it would make a great YA novel.

Whoa…this will be one book that’ll have me turning to pages to see just how it all turns out. Love the mystery behind your blurb.

When I read the words “only forbidden place”, I thought “hay loft”! So I was wrong, but I do see childhood influence in the pond and 40 acres.

I agree with Lisa that this could be a great YA novel, although I’m betting that adults would read it as well. A bit like Harry Potter. I think you should write it. What are you doing for NaNoWriMo this year?

Funny, I’d been thinking about working up a few of my blurb ideas for NaNo.

This would certainly sell, but I feel uncomfortable thinking about a 14-year-old fighting to find her way home. I guess it’s the word “fighting” that bothers me. If it’s a fantasy world, fine.
Very interesting how you and Pat even used similar names “Caitlyn” and “Katie” — one of you is sure to have a book here.

I could definitely enjoy reading this one! Good job!

This is a great premise for a YA story, and wide open with possibilities since you’re creating a fantasy world on the other side of the bridge. Add a cute boy to the mix and a love-to-hate-him bad guy and you’re on your way!

I like the magical twist at the end. I was sure you were going to say she fell or got abducted.

Oh my goodness! I don’t read anyone’s blurb until I post mine. Ours are eerily similar!

I avoid reading until I post as well, it gets too confusing. I was surprised as I read how similar others were.
