Woodland Discovery
We love finding new free activities close to home and Shelby Farms Woodland Discovery 
Playground is just such a place. filled with fabulous, innovative, child-suggested playground equipment Woodland Discovery looks like no other playground I have ever seen.
From the steel lattice arbor that covers the walkway to the “nests” that are 
used to separate and contain the six unique playareas to the truly woodland look in the middle of a city the playground is visually unique. Add to that the use of recycled material throughout the park like shredded 
sneakers for safety matting, plastic milk jugs turned into bright red and blue Adirondack chairs, and reclaimed timbers used to create comfortable park benches for the parents to rest on.
The kids had a grand time climbing, swinging, digging, and splashing while the 
parents of our k12 group got the rare opportunity to talk with an educational director interested in designing a program for homeschoolers based on our needs, wants, and ideas. The only things I could have asked for was a little more shade near the seating, that will come with time as the baby plants grow up and over the arbor, and some picnic tables inside the play area instead of all being outside the entrance. No matter we’ll definitely be going back soon for more woodland discovery.
