Random Peeks Into Our Everyday Lives

Calling To Collect

It ringing phoneis always annoying when I miss a bill deadline and the company calls to remind me, so annoying that you would think I would always remember to pay them on time. I try to I really do, it’s just that sometimes life gets in the way.

Because of this, I have a real sympathy for people who are in the midst of a serious debt collections process. It has to border on overwhelming to have people calling you and mailing you for money that you may or may not have.

The good news for people in this situation is that there are ways to stop debt collectors from contacting you so that you can do what you need to do to get back on track. Debt collectors may not harass you, embarrass you, or threaten you and if one does, you should immediately seek professional assistance. Remember that you are not at their mercy and you do not have to be abused by them.

If you are unfamiliar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and are, being called by creditors, you should familiarize yourself with this important piece of legislation. The FDCPA is meant to protect you from unfair debt collection tactics and may be used to stop collections calls.
