Random Peeks Into Our Everyday Lives

Finding The Right Host

glowing binaryAny one who has read my blog over the last couple of years knows that I have had more than a few issues with my web host, Go Daddy. My original sites were ASP based and at the time only functional on a windows server. When I choose and independent blogging platform I picked blogengine.net because despite all its issues and sometimes sketchy help it did in fact work on a windows platform.

I was very excited when Go Daddy announced that their recent (a few years ago) updates allowed the php based wordpress to run on a windows server. I wish some one had mentioned just how unreliably it would run; of course, I probably should have read some web hosting reviews before assuming it would really work. Over the course of three years I switched blogging platforms 4 times and even gave up blogging for several months.

Eventually as a household we bit the bullet and reinvented all our sites as php based sites and at our last renewal switched to a Go Daddy linux server. We decided to stay with Go Daddy even after researching web hosting reviews on a variety of linux based web hosts because for the number and size of the sites we are running Go Daddy’s price is fair and their service is usually reliable.

My advice to any one currently looking for the right web host for their site is to know what you have to have, what you’d like to have, and what you are willing to give up; then go comparison shopping with all the qualified hosts making sure to read plenty of web hosting reviews from reliable outside sources. Hopefully you’ll be able to avoid some of the pain and suffering I went through on my journey to find the right hosting account.
