A Little Motivation
Often the moments that schools make such a fuss over go by unnoticed by homeschoolers. We don’t really take a lot of the vacations, fuss over report cards, or track the first 100 days of the school. There are no assemblies, special festivals, or have huge awards ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of the year. Because of this it can often be difficult to find the motivation to be the task master and push through the tough times.
One trick I’ve found is trying to work some of those public school “extras” back into our schooling in a small way. Whether it’s fun pencils or printable certificates the little tangible rewards can make all the difference in keeping us both on track and excited about the process.
The little prizes are easy as we live around the corner from a Dollar Tree and I keep my eyes open for chances to pick up little things everywhere we go. Printable certificates on the other hand are a little tougher. There are tons of free templates but the graphics are often of less than stellar quality and print blurred or grainy. I’ve tried making my own and the type and clip art is fine but I’ve never mastered the borders. Then I found Geographics and their great printable certificates and certificate kits.
There are several different styles of certificates with seals and ribbons for just $4.99/25 pack. There are several shipping options which allow you to keep it affordable. I’m plotting my order now so that the next time we need to celebrate a milestone I can quick print off a great looking certificate that Miss Muffin will be thrilled to get.
