In the Mix
I love listening to music and remember spending hours mix tapes as a kid. I was more than a little distressed when I first tried to record myself playing in the school band. Some how the live music didn’t sound nearly as good when recorded. It probably would have helped if I’d known about all the work that goes into those songs we hear on the radio and had access to an audio mastering studio to work on my own recordings.
As an adult I’ve had the opportunity to use several audio mastering studio programs to improve my sound recordings and clip tracks down to the size I want for use as website audio effects. While some of these programs work better than others I’m under no illusion that my results are anywhere near professional, I don’t have the right knowledge base or tools for that.
A singer/songwriter friend told me that she uses an online audio mastering studio to achieve professional results with all her music. She says that it is easier, faster, and more affordable than any of the local options audio mastering. Even better is the fact that she can get each song back in all the formats she needs for cd production, downloads, and radio play.
I suspect that level of audio mastering is way beyond anything I’ll ever need but it sure is nice to know its out there if I ever need it.
