Photo Framed Photos

I thought it would be fun to do a quick Paintshop only tut on the photo framed photos I posted on Friday. For today’s example I am using 7 photos my daughter took at our local zoo.

Warning: The remainder of this post is graphics heavy.

  1. If you don’t already know the size limits of your blog posting area check your source code to determine them.
  2. In any version of Paintshop 9 & up open your chosen photos. Select one to be your background/frame photo.
  3. Make any adjustments you wish to your background photo. Crop and/or resize your photo to fit on your blog.
  4. step 3
  5. Make any adjustments you wish to your remaining photos. Resize them so that they will fit onto your background/frame photo with space left over. (For today’s example I resized all 6 to the same size for Friday’s post I used 3 different sizes.)
  6. step 4
  7. Copy and paste each of your smaller photos onto a new layer over your background/frame photo. Move them around until you like the way the look.
  8. step 5
  9. Right click on the top layer in the layer pallette. Select Merge-Merge Down. Now use CTRL+Y to repeat the merge down until you have just 2 layers, your background/frame and your smaller photos.
  10. step 6
  11. With your magic wand set to ALL OPAQUE and Contiguous unchecked click on any of the photos on your small photo layer. Now from the SELECTION menu choose Load/Save Selection-Save Selection to Alpha Channel. (This is just in case you decide to do something after you have unselected.)
  12. step 7a
    step 7b
  13. Invert your selection by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+I, then apply a light drop shadow to slightly darken the edges of your photos.
  14. step 8
  15. Leave the selection on and make your background/frame layer active. Apply an inner bevel that raises the background/frame so that it appears to rise over the photos.
  16. step 9
  17. Deselect (CTRL+D) and check out your photos. Do you like what you see, do you want to make any changes, now is the time to add anything or alter your effects if you wish. When you are done export your photo as a jpeg and you are ready to post it.

What a great tutorial! I’m going to have to try that. I’m not very good with Paintshop, and I need a lot more practice. Thanks for taking the trouble to post it!

Glad you like it! I decided it was worth doing a few after so many people commented on the photos and thought it had something to do with wordpress. Let me know if you have any problems.
