commercial grade picnic table

Yep that’s right I’m wide awake and pondering the pros and cons of commercial picnic tables vs. the everyday variety. How’s that for odd. [Read more →]

Sorting Through Stuff

Back when we first started thinking about a move locally we began the process of sorting through all our possessions and keeping just the things we need and use. Miss Muffin even got in on it reducing several bins of toys down to three. The eye opener came when she realized that as hard as it had seemed to get down to just three bins, the truth is she doesn’t really play with more than a handful of the things she’s kept. In Motion

We are in motion, our long relocation search is almost up and I’m a little surprised that we’ll be headed eastward. I’d thought for quite a while that we would remain in Memphis or perhaps head west to Austin or Phoenix but it turns out that there’s no Austin allergist or Phoenix cardiologist in our future. Graduation Celebration

graduation

I had a bunch of college credits from several universities and desperately wanted to get at least my Associate degree. After much looking around I decided the quickest and simplest way to do this would be to get my Associate in Arts General Studies from Strayer. Admittedly not the most prestigious of degrees but I figured the family motto of “something is better than nothing at all” applied and went for it. [Read more →]

Squirrels, Trig, and Portfolios

As I mentioned earlier we had squirrels nest in the attic this winter and now that the weather is warming up the smell they’ve left behind is less than pleasant. Fortunately they kept to one corner and the smells seem to be staying in one room. The bad part is that room is essentially uninhabitable until I get the smell cleared.

In a totally unrelated stream of thought I spent the week revisiting trigonometry. Trig and I have always had a love/hate relationship so it hasn’t been all fun and giggles but I think I’ve got a better grasp on it now than I ever did in high school. Hey, at least I’ll be ready when Miss Muffin gets to it, I hope.

Speaking of Miss Muffin, we’ve got our third portfolios due and I finally gotten all the pieces of the semester assessments together. Well, except for the math scratch paper, if she ever used any it is long gone and they’ll just have to live with that. I’ll be so glad when were done with all the tests, tests, and more tests. Come on TCAPS, lets just be done with you so we can get on with the rest of our lives.

Oh, I almost forgot, I fixed our dishwasher. It’s been non-functional at least a year now and then I saw a blog article a friend had pinned on pinterest and I tried everything she suggested and a few tips from readers. Now the dishwasher washes the dishes and drains which means Grandma’s dish duty just got a whole lot easier!

Cutting Back & Getting More

Slowly but surely over the last 6 months all the great package deals I had that kept my phone, internet and tv affordable have run out and it occurred to me that it is ridiculous to be paying AT&T more than I pay MLGW for all the utilities. We are already at a base phone plan and with 3 people doing a ton on the internet reducing that didn’t seem like the best choice. So what to do about the tv? [Read more →]

Laugh Out Loud

Weekends our busy in our house when I’m in school quizzes, papers, and projects take over our lives until everything is submitted. This weekend also featured the next step in Miss Muffin’s room makeover with the installation of the loft bed. She’s got a study area and a sitting area underneath and company whenever she goes up in the loft.
