Getting Started With The Decorating
So some how the unthinkable has happened. Two out of three days have passed and not one bit of Christmas decorating has been done. Usually by now we are swapping out the dishes and and hauling the boxes back to the garage.
We are still unpacking, I know it has been almost six months; but there has been a lot going on in that six months. My mother is still recovering from a catastrophic injury and homeschooling certainly takes up more time than I ever could have imagined.
However, we are making progress. We emptied the last of the kitchen boxes before the holiday, and are now down to four living room boxes, and lots of pictures, nic-nacs and other little things. We did some toy organization yesterday and made room for a tree in the living room.
Now we need a tree and to bring in the boxes from the garage. Harvest decorating was light this year so that pack up should only take a few minutes. The question is where to get the tree, it has to be artificial, the allergies in this house would never stand for a real tree, and it can’t be pre-lit. Some how I think finding the right tree is going to take more time than decorating it for once; everywhere I’ve looked all I’ve seen are those pre-lit ones.
I’m off to do the last bit of house cleaning before our shopping expedition, wish me luck.
6:56pm – We have a tree, a tree skirt with penguins on it, and a wreath for the front door. All for about half of what I had expected to pay for the tree. Now we just need to decorate it; but not tonight.

Sounds like you’ve got an awful lot going on right now, don’t sweat the decorations – being together for the holiday is decoration enough. Everything else that you do manage to get done is gravy

You don’t need luck! You are already so far ahead in the game, even with all the obstacles.
Good deal on the tree. Robin’s right: don’t sweat the decorations. The holiday will still rock if the walls are bare.

Thanks for sharing. Christmas is almost here and I still need to do my shopping. I still need to buy my sister the lord of the rings book series. I couldn’t believe the insane prices at Amazon.
