Computer Meltdown

You know that awful smell when something electrical is burning, well we had that in our office last night. We searched and searched but couldn’t find the source. As a precaution we shut down all the computers and peripherals before we went to bed even though the smell had passed.

This morning I turned on my computer and got to work investigating merchant account reseller opportunities. A short while later mom was up and computing too. After a few hours we noticed the smell again and finally traced it to my computer. Not my old pc that holds extra files, no it was my good pc that I use everyday, the one with all my programs and current files.

Turns out the fan on the power supply had died, and the whole unit was overheating to the point of being ready to crash. We can get a new one but it will take a few days. Never fear though, turns out the old pc power supply is a perfect match so I’ve transfered it over to my newer pc so that I can keep on going.

Fixture Envy

Grohe fixtures

Okay, I seriously have a bad case of faucet envy. I was looking at a couple of home improvement sites and wound up looking at Grohe faucets. They are so sleek and shiny, I would love to have some of these in my own house. Not that the tubs, sinks, and showers are fancy enough to pull any of them off, but a girl could hope to one day remodel in style.

I Wonder…

I always wonder when I see the advertisements for medical coding training courses, the programs are everywhere and it would seem from the websites that there is a great demand for people with this training. How successful are the graduates in finding employment, what type of job security is there. I suppose that there is always a need for a variety of medical professionals, as there are always people in need of medical care. I guess it just becomes a question of finding the right program for you and then getting the most out of it.

Cracked Lips

One of the things that I hate about cold weather is that even with chapstick or similar products I wind up with cracked lips. Then because I’m the obsessive sort I irritate the cracks by constantly rubbing them with my tongue. Of course, this also leads to more cracks in my lips. As annoying as this is, I’m fortunate that I don’t get cold sores, I know that there are all kinds of herpes simplex treatments out there but the darn things look so painful and unlike the cracks in my lips that almost no one sees cold sores tend to be right out there and visible. Guess there’s always something to be grateful for.

The House

When we moved this summer we were fully prepared for an adventure. Little did we know that our house would turn out to be an adventure all by itself.

There were the doors with missing weatherproofing, simple to fix. Windows improperly installed, not so easy to fix. There is landscaping that causes the house to flood, temporarily fixed, the big fix will take more money and muscle than there currently is. There is the evil dishwasher that overflows whenever it wants with no particular rhyme or reason. There was the outside faucet with no shutoff and no insulation that burst in January, still need to fix the drywall over that fix.

Think that’s enough, well, I’ve got one more, a ceiling fan and light that for some reason overloads the office circuit. Hard to believe, but it’s true. Nothing else in this badly wired house causes a problem, but the office fan and light well, let’s just say it could shut the whole place down. I need to get the ladder out, climb up and take a look, I’m sure it will require electrical supplies and tools, some of which thanks to my Buppa, I’ll be able to find in the garage – somewhere…

It’s a good thing this move came with a great zoo, fun museums, and wonderful nature areas or I’d be ready to move again. Well, no not really, cause I hate moving, but that’s another story for another day.

Thoughts on House & Health

I’m really getting into cleaning and organizing our home. There’s still a lot to be done, but every time I see one of the newly decluttered and sparkling areas, my heart beat’s a little faster. Reminds me that I should be doing a little organizing in the health department.

I’m feeling fine, but am long past due for some routine medical screenings. I really should have a vision check. Guess I’m at that mammogram age now too. Heart disease runs in my family, so a cholesterol test is probably in order. Like housework, these things are pretty easy to postpone. I feel fine and who wants to be hear otherwise? But far better to find out now that I have high cholesterol, make some lifestyle changes and get a cholesterol treatment, than to wait until my heart is giving me problems.

I’m trying to deal with just one thing at a time. Don’t want to take on so much that I get overwhelmed and give up. But at least I’m starting to think about them. I think that’s a good first step.

Wondering…

I had to shop for car and renter’s insurance this past year and it was about as fun as having teeth pulled without novacaine. It is such a hassle figuring out what you need, getting quotes, trying to compare policies that are so dissimilar it like comparing apples and oranges. It made me think that there must be a better way to get car or home insurance quotes, right?
