Thursday Thirteen #24

Thursday Thirteen

We check a lot of books out of the library each week, some for school, some for fun. We have 3 cards in our household which means we can have up to 75 books, dvds, cds, or videos checked out at any given time. I think most of the time we come pretty close to being maxed out, and on a few occasions we’ve actually had to pick and chose what to check out due to limited space. Oh for the days we were in Georgia and could check out 50 items per card. Here are 13 books, we currently have checked out.

  • The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

I started this the other day and I’m still not quite sure what I think of it, I keep hoping for that moment when I fall into the story.

  • The Divide by Nicholas Evans

This book is going to haunt me, I’ve made it 2/3 of the way through and somehow I can’t bring myself to finish it.

  • The complete book of Fingermath by Edwin M. Lieberthal

This was recommended by another homeschool mom and we are excited to give it a try later today. It takes counting on your fingers to a whole new level.

  • Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown

We picked this one and the two below up because we have joined a Flat Travelers Group. Miss Muffin really seems to be enjoying the stories and is thrilled to have already mailed out her first 3 travelers.

  • Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures #1: The Mount Rushmore Calamity

  • Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures #2: The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery

  • Wild Science Projects about Earth's Weather by Robert Gardner

We haven’t started working with this one yet, but the title just called to me. Nothing like experimenting and making a mess while learning.

  • The National Parks: America's Best Idea

Miss Muffin has really enjoyed the new zoo exhibit modeled after the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, so this lovely book was a no brainer. There are some absolutely gorgeous photos in it.

  • Lion dancer: Ernie Wan's Chinese New Year by Kate Waters

We learned a little about Chinese New Year this year in hopes of tempering the madness of Valentine’s day. It’s a cute story with lots of great factual information and photographs.

  • The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen

I’m looking forward to reading this, perhaps I can bribe myself to finish the other 2 by holding off starting this one….

  • Hour of the Olympics by Mary Pope Osborne

Miss Muffin loves the Magic Tree House Series and this one is so fitting for current events. I’m in search of the research guide for this one now.

  • Molly the Goldfish Fairy by Daisy Meadows

Our girl has read most of these and has even reread a few of the collections. They are such girly girl books, I wonder where she gets it from???

  • Husky in a Hut by Ben M. Baglio

The Animal Ark series is another favorite, even though I seriously wondered about them when we read the first one. They border on being too graphic for her, she is such a sweet, tender kid. She really loves animals though and gets a few of these every time we go to the library. I’m sure she’s read them all twice by now.

Teaser Tuesdays #10

Teaser Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly book meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following: grab your current read, open to a random page, share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page, BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!), share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:

The Divide by Nicholas Evans

He gripped the rim of the casket and bowed his head and closed his eyes. And the sobs came quaking through him and he didn’t try to fight them. Alone now, he would allow himself this, and later be the stronger for Sarah. ~ pg 46

The Divide by Nicholas Evans

P.S. ~ If you would like a chance to win a copy of Alice Audrey’s Moving In, check out my first ever giveaway at Calico Contemplations.
