Melaia paused as the intruder slipped off his gloves. His fingernails were long, curved, and sharp. Talons. Her pulse pounded at her throat. His blackened eye, his scratched brow, his feathered cloak, his limp.

Galileo would be a bridge connecting observation and experiment, despite the fact that he didn’t always use experiments the way we think he should have. In fact, Galileo would downplay experiments far more than is commonly attributed to him. Yet a bridge, although not the final destination, is necessary for reaching it.

On January 23, 2010 sixteen year old Abby Sunderland set sail from Marina del Rey, CA in an attempt to become the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world. What happened when she entered the 27 million square miles of the Indian Ocean would test her strength, endurance, and will to survive.
But I would learn that some challenges are greater than others. And fear can tear its way into your heart no matter how tough you think you are.
Unsinkable By Abby Sunderland with Lynn Vincent

My disbelief paralyzes me temporarily as I stare at the sight of my arm vanishing into an implausibly small gap between the fallen boulder and the canyon wall. (pg 23)
Understanding my responsibility for my circumstances placates my anger. My despondency remains, but I stop striking out against the rock. (pg 108)

I have weapons in my arsenal that I’ve not yet tried on him. I have no doubt he is concealing armaments, too. Our truce is a floor of eggshells and we’re both wearing combat boots.
Sometimes I worry that there’s not enough room in my brain for both my dreams and reality, that I’m a hard drive with limited gigabytes and one day I won’t be able to maintain the firewall between them. I wonder if that’s what senility is.

They surround me, my lovers, the terrifying Unseelie Princes. Who’d've thought destruction could be so beautiful? Seductive. Consuming.
I am more than pain. I am agony. I am the other side of death denied the mercy of it. I am life that should never have been.

If they handed out trophies for delinquent bloggers I would surely qualify. I had these all picked out Sunday and here it is 11:40pm central standard time Tuesday and I’m just getting them out here. The good news is that I have next week’s picked out as well and I’m going to schedule the post as soon as I’m done here. Maybe that way I can even participate in the commenting fun. I’m loving this Fever series and I can’t wait to see how it all ends, then again…maybe I can.

As suddenly and unexpectedly as the sexual inferno had razed every cell in my body, it was gone, leaving me cold and, for brief moments, in agonizing pain, ravenous for delights that could only be sampled by eating from a banquet table at which humans were never meant to sit.

I’ve already finished this one and am part way through number 3, Faefever. After a slightly slow start on the first book the whole story has really sucked me in and I am cruising right along.
